Using Tally Sheets Direct Behavior Rating Reports

Direct Behavior Rating. - Using Tally Sheets with BrighterBalance

The BrighterBalance Target & Replacement Behavior Tally Sheet is a paper-based data collection tool designed to work alongside the app. Use it when you want to capture behavior on paper throughout that day and transfer it to BrighterBalance with a single photo.

What it tracks:

Each sheet tracks one student and one target behavior across up to eight periods or intervals per day. For each period, you record:

  • How often the target behavior occurred and how intense each incident was (T row)
  • How often the student used the replacement behavior, and whether it was independent or prompted (R row)

At the end of the day, the sheet calculates a DBR Score: Replacement Total divided by Target + Replacement Total.

Notes

You may want to make a reusable template: Fill in everything except the date — student name, target behavior, replacement behavior, observer, grade/tier, and all period labels and times. Make a stack of copies. Each day, grab a copy, write in the date, and you are ready to go.

How to mark: T row: Write the intensity number (1–5) in each box, one per incident. R row: Write I for Independent or P for Prompted, one per occurrence.

Transferring to BrighterBalance: When the sheet is complete, open BrighterBalance, tap Photo Capture, and photograph the sheet. It becomes a timestamped record tied to the student, alongside all the student's other behavioral data.
